Please tell me that you reported that physician to the hospital administration and the state Medical board. His behavior was inexcusable and a breach of the Hippocratic oath.

My thoughts exactly! He was violating his oath by delaying treatment of a child in respiratory distress based on racist, anti-immigrant bias. He should lose his job and his license.

Tears and terror filled me the more I read. I hate what happened to your daughter and you in a situation that was already fraught with tension. I've known this could happen to folks trying to access emergency care, but this brought it home to me in a more visceral, tangible way. I am so sorry it happened to you and could happen to anyone that does not fit the white supremacist's world vision.

This is terrible. I work for a hospital system but in a very blue state. I know our senior leaders well enough to know if this happened consequences would be swift. We have all been told repeatedly since January nothing has changed in how we treat patients. Nothing. Our commitment remains the same to them. I would shake some trees at this institution so they are aware of this doctor. Patients can also file a safety concern with the Joint Commission via their website. I hope your little one is feeling better.

This is beyond appalling and disgusting! The damage this administration is inflicting on innocent people is staggering. That Dr should lose his license. He took an oath and it obviously means nothing. I’m so sorry you went through this and please know that you have many people who are with you and who will resist this regime of oppression in any way we can.

Remember there were Nazi Doctors. Just because they got a degree doesn't exempt them from prejudice and narcissistic delusions of Godhood.

Substack needs a mad button. This is outrageous at best. I'm glad your daughter ultimately got the help she needed and that you had enough experience to deal with the situation. I could never and will never experience anything like this, but man does it make my blood boil. If you don't want to treat certain people as a doctor you shouldn't be in the ER, nor a doctor. Go be a baker or some shit.

Hold on.. my daughter is a doctor. She took an oath to “do no harm..” she would NEVER put anyone in a life threatening situation for a nonsense reason like that.. that Doctor needs to be reported.

As a Canadian benefiting from a tax-supported healthcare system just like the public services Americans receive - police, firefighters, road crews, military etc. (No it's not socialism, Martha!) I cannot conceive of living in the richest country that has ever existed in the history of humanity and having to experience fear about my child being treated in a hospital emergency room. What is wrong with you people?

As a Brit I had the same reaction. I cannot imagine this happening in a U.K. hospital thank goodness.

Defunding Education since Reagan and allowing Propaganda Media to monopolize vast areas of the Country. Only 5 mega Corporations control all our Media and they are owned by the Billionaires currently in Power. Don't let that happen in Canada or Europe. Also keep dark money out of Government and watch out for your Judiciary.

That is the $64k question we are all having here too. We have seen seemingly rational parents with no history of crazy political leanings become delusional over trump or some stupid maga issue. It's got to be psychological programming. Another friend of mine thinks it's undigested drugs in the water. Idk it's frightening to be in it for sure. And the Nazi thing was so discreet for so long and now it's overt and it's hard to tell which of your relatives are now eugenicists. It's like being in a twilight zone episode.

Fellow (retired) hospital chaplain here and mother of a trans kid with asthma. I'm so sorry this happened to you. It can be very frustrating to take a hospital ER to task for a doctor's incompetence when you're the mother concerned for her child. My respects to you for doing what you can - for your kid, for the ER's pateints, and for the rest of us.

I’m so sorry you had this experience. It is so wrong to think that a physician would put you through such a horrifying experience. I wouldn’t return to that ER for any reason.

I would - but only to make a formal complaint about the doctor to the ER's management team.

How can treating anyone be against the law? Any doctor that would abide by that law should lose their license (and be ashamed of themselves). Any state that would enact such a law should lose federal funding. It is an outrage.

I'm sure your lawyer is on it but this is behavior his malpractice insurance carrier should also be made aware of.

Insurance companies love it when doctors do stupid stuff on record.

May I suggest you file an EMTALA violation complaint with CMS. It sounds like a violation (trying to obtain information on pt legal status) during the screening exam and stabilizing treatment. Patient was not stable. At the very least file a grievance with the hospital administrator on call.

It is heartbreaking to see the ethical climate of healthcare so willingly ignore their oath, their training and humanity because of political dogma. Where are the scientists in medicine? Where is the compassion in healthcare? Between the insurance industry and pharmaceutical industry quality healthcare is non existent. The esteemed healers have become calculating robots. To think this is also SOP in “religion” based systems is even more disgusting. I have seen some heartbreaking errors in healthcare. It is a complex industry. What we see now is a choice to leave behind a sense of humanity and caring for financial gain for organizational leaders.
